Battle for Man United Target Intensifies As PSG Table Bid

Paris Saint-Germain have initiated the transfer battle for Manchester United target Angel di Maria by submitting a £48m offer for the Real Madrid winger, according to Sky Italia.

Laurent Blanc, the PSG boss, is a big fan of Di Maria and has asked senior figures at the club to pull all out the stops to bring the midfielder to the French capital - and they have responded by producing an initial proposal worth around £48m.

Incoming Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has placed the 26-year-old on his shortlist of targets to reinforce the Old Trafford side, while Monaco and Juventus are also monitoring his situation closely.

The former Benfica man is unsettled at the Bernabeu and his place in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting XI could be under threat next term if Real firm up their interest in Monaco’s James Rodriguez, who achieved global prominence with his spectacular showings at the World Cup for Colombia.

Di Maria was an integral figure for Real as they claimed their 10th Champions League crown - he was named man of the match following the 4-1 final win against Atletico - and he has continued his good form at international level, scoring the winning goal for Argentina in their last 16 win against Switzerland.

He also proved his versatility following Gareth Bale’s record-breaking move from Tottenham to the Bernabeu, successfully adapting to a central-midfield role after initially making his mark at the club as an out-and-out winger.
