Awoniyi Will Be A Star, Says Kanu Nwankwo

Kanu predicts bright future for Awoniyi
The former Nigeria captain has predicted a bright future for the Flying Eagles forward should he keep up his impressive performance

Kanu Nwankwo has lauded the recent form of Taiwo Awoniyi and feels that the Nigeria Youth international has what it takes to become one of football’s undisputed star players in future.

The 18-year-old has been scintillating so far this year helping the Nigeria U20 side win the 2015 African Youth Championship as well as grabbing a brace that helped the Nigeria U23 team qualify for the All African Games.

According to Papillo who is an ardent follower of the rookie, Awoniyi is the hottest Nigerian kid and should he remain consistent, he will become a star.

“Watched him play for U17/U20 and talked to him, our hottest kid and if he keeps doing his best he will be a star. AWONIYI,” Kanu wrote on his Twitter handle.

Luis Enrique: Neymar Must Accept That I Have To Make Decisions

Luis Enrique: Neymar must accept that I have to make decisions
The Barcelona boss says that he understands that his troops want to play every minute of every game but adds that they must follow his orders

Barcelona coach Luis Enrique insists he did not see Neymar react angrily to his substitution against Sevilla on Saturday but says that every member of his squad must accept that he is the boss at Camp Nou.

Neymar put the Catalans 2-0 up at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan with a fantastic free kick and was proving one of the visitors' most dangerous attacking threats before being surprisingly replaced by Xavi with 16 minutes remaining.

The Brazil international appeared visibly annoyed by his withdrawal but Luis Enrique did not want to be drawn on the issue on the eve of Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final, first-leg meeting with Paris Saint-Germain.

"I didn't see anything," the Barca boss told reporters at the Parc des Princes.

"I understand that all players want to play and the players should have to understand I have to make decisions.

"From there, you can speculate about whatever you want."

Luis Enrique also refused to confirm whether Neymar will start in Paris but he did acknowledge that the Selecao skipper has formed a wonderful understanding with fellow forwards Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

"I think they look great," he stated. "They give us so much and give us so much from a defensive point of view. They’re in good form.

"But I like everything about my team; that’s why we are where we are."

Indeed, Luis Enrique does not believe that the unavailability of the suspended Dani Alves will have a major bearing on Barca's hopes of victory in the French capital.

"Alves is an important player for us, as evidenced by the amount of minutes he plays," he added.

"However, we have a large squad and the options I have available to me offer me reassurances that Dani Alves' absence will not condition how we play."

Rangers Give Raja Casablanca Deadline On Osaguona Fees

Osaguona's stock has risen in Morocco
The Flying Antelopes have told the Moroccan club to comply with the agreement reached on the striker's transfer fees else they'll lose his services

Enugu Rangers have set a deadline for Moroccan club Raja Casablanca to pay up the 150,000 Euros transfer fee of Ighodaro Osaguona, or risk losing the striker.

Osaguona has hit the ground running since he joined the Moroccan side last December with his goals helping them in the Caf Champions League and the domestic league.

He has scored two goals in the Botola Pro League and three in the Caf Champions League in a total of nine matches for Raja so far.

Rangers' Director of Media and Publicity, Foster Chime told Goal that they are very surprised that Raja defaulted on the agreement reached between both clubs to pay the asking price on the striker and won’t hesitate reporting the case to Fifa.

He said Raja agreed to pay the money in three instalments but Rangers are yet to get a dime.

“We have written to Raja and have also copied [the] Morocco FA and Caf that they have till the end of next week to pay the transfer fees of Ighodaro Christian Osaguona. We will take it to further lengths by going to Fifa if they do not comply with our latest ultimatum,” Chime told Goal.

“We are a peace loving club but Raja are taking that for granted. We released Osaguona to them since December last year and by the arrangement on how the cash is to be received, we ought to have received everything by the end of last month. Till date we are yet to get anything at all.

“It is after we have explored all possibilities and there is no headway that we will ask for his recall because they have reneged on the agreement reached with them.”

Osaguona scored 16 league goals for Rangers in the 2013/2014 Nigeria Professional Football League season.

Messi Is Unstoppable - Blanc

Messi is unstoppable - Blanc
The Barcelona forward has been in prolific form in the last three months, though the PSG coach is wary of just concentrating on nullifying the Argentine

Paris Saint-Germain coach Laurent Blanc has described Lionel Messi as "unstoppable" ahead of Wednesday's Champions League tussle with Barcelona.

The Argentine forward has been in incredible form in 2015 and has scored 45 goals in 44 games so far this season to propel the Catalan club to the top of La Liga and into the final of the Copa del Rey.

Messi scored in both clashes with PSG last year, although Blanc is wary of putting all of his defensive eggs in one basket when there are also the likes of Luis Suarez and Neymar to worry about.

"Lionel Messi is unstoppable," the former Manchester United defender told reporters. "If he scores 40 goals, he's had a bad season!

"But we can't just focus on him. The solution must be collective, man marking doesn't work.

"We will need to be aggressive defensively but in the good sense of the term, to be able to stop their attackers."

The coach also piled praise on PSG forward Javier Pastore, who was described by France legend Eric Cantona as better than Messi or Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo on Tuesday.

"Pastore has huge potential and is becoming an important player for us," he said of the Argentine. "He has matured enormously in the last six months."

PSG will be hoping they can replicate their win over Luis Enrique's side at Parc des Princes in the Champions League group stage in Wednesday's tie, with the return leg at Camp Nou to be played six days later.

Zaha: Young People Should Grab PL Kicks Opportunity

Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha revealed the role Premier League Kicks played in his formative years when he recently visited the project in Croydon where he honed his skills as a youngster.
The 22-year-old used to attend PL Kicks at the Canterbury Road site as a teenager, where, with the help of the Crystal Palace Foundation, Zaha began his journey to the top flight of English football.

And Zaha returned to the place where it all started to watch the talent on display as well as to speak and offer advice to the participants hoping to one day follow in his footsteps.

"PL Kicks has done a lot for me," said Zaha, who used to live five minutes away from Canterbury Road and started attending PL Kicks as a 14-year-old. "After a while I couldn't use the back garden because I broke everything!

"I played football all the time. At school I would play football so my school shoes were a mess and when I'd get home I would go out and ask my family if they would play football with me.

"It was great to be able to come down to the park and actually have goals, cones and nets and use it for free. It gave me an opportunity to showcase my talent. The sessions were mainly passing drills and from that to games, which I thought were the best sessions ever as I just wanted to play. I used to take on everyone.

"Those times were hard but this gave me a big opportunity and the staff were all supportive. I went from that to where I am now. The whole dream was football from the beginning but I probably would have done something to do with football, if that meant helping out or coaching then I would have."

Coaches who worked with Zaha are still helping out at the Canterbury Road site and they remember the winger fondly. "He always stayed on the outside, he would never go in the centre of the pitch because they would kick him in there, he wouldn't pass!” said PL Kicks coach Michael Lacey. "He stood out a mile."

Best XI: Week 32

This is the second week in a row that an American goalkeeper has headlined the Best XI. Last week it was Tim Howard and this week is Brad Guzan’s turn. To join the American on the pitch this week are the following players:
Best XI: Week 32
Many players missed the Best XI this week due to a high price. They were:
S. Aguero
T. Courtois
D. Ospina
C. Fabregas
K. Davis
S. Mignolet
A. Sanchez
All of these players had enough points to be included but we couldn’t fit them within the budget.  It’s the time of the year where bargains and discounts are very important.
Points
A big drop-off from last week – only 227 points this week but that was expected since there are no double gameweek teams.
Cost
This week the BEST XI cost £ 92.57M*.  The new price of our Best XI (if you were to try to create this team now after the price changes) is £ 123.42M.  That’s a 33.3% increase in price.
*Keep in mind the cost does NOT include any substitutes and is thus 96M instead of 100M, which assumes one might have four £ 1M substitutes.
MVP
This week’s MVP is Yannick Bolasie, who had one of the best eleven-minute stretches of fantasy PL this season. He scored three and assisted one in the span of eleven minutes for an incredible fantasy performance. Keep in mind though that the midfielder had only scored once before this season and fantasy points are not something he specializes in. If you believe in the hot hand, Bolasie faces up against West Brom next week in a plus-matchup, but be careful as his hat-trick is not something you’ll see again anytime soon.

Champions League Power Ranking: Barcelona Remains The Team To Beat

Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid still form a triumvirate that reigns over Europe, and the trio of super clubs did well to avoid each other at the quarterfinal stage of the Champions League. If all three advance, the semifinals promise mouthwatering clashes next month.
The final eight features a collection of teams that all have the ability to advance. Surprises at this stage of the competition are almost expected.
[Champions League: Scores and Schedule | Group Standings | Teams]
To follow up on our last-16 rankings, here's a look at the quarterfinalists listed in order of their chances to raise the Champions League trophy in Berlin on June 6.
Barcelona
1. Barcelona. Over two legs in the round of 16, Lionel Messi looked like he was back to his brilliant best. He looked like the best player in Europe again, and his magical return to the summit makes Barcelona the team to beat in Europe. While the Catalan club recently drew 2-2 away to Sevilla in La Liga, Barcelona had won its previous nine matches by an aggregate score of 24-5. Even in the 2-2 draw, Messi managed a curling effort from the right side that ended up in the far left corner. Adding to Messi, Neymar struck a superb free kick goal that should serve as a confidence boost to the Brazilian, who has been wasteful in front of goal. Barcelona is still the favorite to win it all.
UEFA Stat: Barcelona has reached the quarterfinals for a record eighth consecutive season.
Bayern Munich
2. Bayern Munich. The German powerhouse is dealing with an injury crisis but continues to churn out results. Bayern is into the semifinals of the German cup and have a sizable advantage in the Bundesliga. Franck RiberyArjen RobbenBastian Schweinsteiger, Medhi Benatia and Tom Stake headline the contingent of injured players. However, Thiago Alcantarais back fit for the first time in ages. Also, Philipp Lahm is available and Javi Martinez is training again. Of the healthy crew, Robert Lewandowski remains key, as the striker has six goals in his last six appearances across all competitions. With Pep Guardiola at the helm, Bayern still plays some of the most dominating football in Europe, regardless of which players take the pitch.
UEFA Stat: Bayern has qualified for the Champions League semifinals in each of the past three campaigns.
Real Madrid
3. Real Madrid. Cristiano Ronaldo may be slightly overshadowed by Messi domestically and in Europe, but the Portuguese international has 10 goals in his last six matches across all competitions. Real Madrid responded to losing to Barcelona on March 22 by winning its next three matches by an aggregate score of 14-1. With regulars Luka ModricJames Rodriguez and Sergio Ramos healthy, Madrid looks lethal again. Los Blancos have only suffered one defeat in the Champions League this season, a shock 4-3 defeat to Schalke in the second leg of the round of 16. Real Madrid is hoping to become the first team to repeat as champion in the Champions League era.
UEFA Stat: Real Madrid has reached the quarterfinals for the fifth consecutive year and advanced to the final four in each of the past four seasons.
Juventus
4. Juventus. The Italian champion had won six matches in a row before suffering a 1-0 defeat to Parma in the Italian league. Injuries and a weakened squad played a part in Saturday's defeat, but Juve remains comfortably ahead in Serie A and has secured passage to the Coppa Italia final. Easily the best team in Italy in recent seasons, Juventus looks in line to finally transfer its domestic form to Europe. The Old Lady of Italian football beat Borussia Dortmund comprehensively by an aggregate score of 5-1 in the round of 16. While AS Monacoproved to be a worthy opponent against Arsenal, Juventus should end the French club’s surprising run in Europe.
UEFA Stat: Juventus have won all 10 of its knockout ties against French teams.
Atletico Madrid
5. Atletico Madrid. Atleti has faced Real Madrid six times in the 2014-15 campaign, and Diego Simeone’s side is unbeaten against its famous neighbor. In all, Atletico Madrid has won four of the meetings, including a 4-0 thrashing in the most recent Feb. 7 meeting at Vicente Calderon. The red and whites come into the quarterfinals unbeaten in their last eight matches across all competitions, and Atletico Madrid last lost head-to-head to Real Madrid in the Champions League final, which required extra time to separate the two rivals. If any team feels comfortable drawing Real Madrid, it is definitely Atleti.
UEFA Stat: Atletico Madrid has won all four of its Champions League matches at home, outscoring the opposition by an aggregate score of 11-0.
Paris Saint-Germain
6. Paris Saint-Germain. Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s absence in the first leg due to suspension hurts the French title holders tremendously. Ibrahimovic tallied five goals in his past two appearances with the French club, and the towering Swede has a remarkable record of 13 goals in his last seven appearances for club and country. Along with Ibrahimovic, PSG is also without standout midfielder Marco Verratti, who is also serving a one-match ban. In the group stage, the Parisian club beat Barcelona 3-2 at home and suffered a 3-1 defeat at the Camp Nou. Having knocked out Chelsea despite playing the second leg down a man for the majority of the match, the big-spending Ligue 1 club should not be taken lightly at this stage.
UEFA Stat: PSG is unbeaten in 33 European home games dating back to a 4-2 group stage defeat in November 2006 to Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC.
FC Porto
7. FC Porto. Being ranked seventh out of eight may not be flattering for the Portuguese power, but that is based on the teams ahead, rather than an indication of Porto’s lack of quality. In particular, Porto’s home record in the Champions League is immaculate with four wins and a draw, which includes the qualifying round. Over those five European home fixtures, Porto has outscored its opposition 15-2.
UEFA Stat: A season ago, Porto earned its first victory against a German side over two legs in 37 years when Porto defeated Eintracht Frankfurt on away goals in the UEFA Europa League round of 32. The last two times Porto advanced past the quarterfinals, it won the competition.
AS Monaco
8. AS Monaco. Monaco played a brilliant first leg against Arsenal in the round of 16, and the French side boasted a stellar defensive record up until that point. However, the Gunners exposed Monaco in the second leg with a comprehensive 2-0 defeat that only allowed the club to advance on away goals. While Monaco’s appearance in the final eight is well deserved and should be celebrated, Juventus comes into the tie as a heavy favorite. However, Monaco faced the same scenario in the round of 16 and managed to qualify for the final eight.
UEFA Stat: Monaco last faced Italian opposition in the 1998 Champions League semifinals, when Juventus knocked out the French side. Monaco has won just one of six previous knockout ties against teams from Italy.

Aston Villa Hope To Bring Former Atletico Madrid Playmaker To England

Aston Villa Hope To Bring Former Atletico Madrid Playmaker To England
Premier League relegation fighters Aston Villa have been reportedly “cleared to make transfer bid for Fenerbahce midfielder Diego”, who is unhappy in Turkey.

Villa’s hopes of signing the Brazilian have taken a significant step in the right direction after the playmaker’s father reportedly confirmed that he is keen on leaving the Turkish outfit.

The 30-year-old, who signed from the La Liga champions Atletico Madrid, has made 17 appearances for Fenerbahce this season, but his father's comments have alerted a number of clubs who are interested in the midfielder.

According to the Metro, the playmaker’s father said to Turkish outlet Milliyet that his son “has a few problems with the staff”, and that “he is not being played a lot and is not really all that happy so he could leave Turkey at the end of the season.”

Tim Sherwood’s Aston Villa are reportedly interested in bringing the Brazilian ace to England, with Everton also thought to be tracking the midfielder, and with Diego’s willingness to leave Turkey, a small transfer fee would be expected.

Keshi To Sign Contract This Week

Former Nigeria captain Stephen Keshi will sign a contract as coach of the Super Eagles this week.

The three-time African champions have been without a substantive coach since June 2014 when Keshi’s first contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) lapsed.

Keshi oversaw Nigeria’s 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifying campaign without a contract and speculations had been rife over his future with the Nigeria national team.

The NFF has now put such speculations to bed by announcing that Keshi will put pen to paper on a new deal this week.

“By the grace of God, the contract of Stephen Keshi will be signed in a day or two. We have completed everything from our end and by the grace of God everything will be finalised this week,” Dr Mohammed Sanusi, General Secretary of the NFF, exclusively told supersport.com on Tuesday.

Keshi had failed in his quest to lead Nigeria to the 2015 Afcon finals in Equatorial Guinea and many had expected him to fall on his sword as his predecessor Samson Siasia did.

When quizzed on that, Sanusi said such comparisons would not help Nigerian football.

“Of what significance (failure to qualify for the 2015 Afcon) is that to our football right now. I don’t think we should go into that now...

“We should be thinking of more important issues right now; things that will take our football to the next level and right now we are talking about the contract of Keshi,” he said.

After failing to qualify for the 2015 Afcon, Nigeria will commence their quest to reach the 2017 tournament in Gabon with a game against Chad on the weekend of June 12-14.

The Super Eagles will also face Tanzania and Egypt in Afcon qualifying Group G and Sanusi is upbeat about the chances of Nigeria progressing from the group.

“We want to make Nigerians have faith in the Super Eagles again. We will strive to do well in the Afcon qualifiers and hopefully we will come out of our group,” he said.

Nigeria Maul Seychelles 10-1 In 2015 Caf Beach Soccer Championship

Nigeria maul Seychelles 10-1 in 2015 Caf Beach Soccer Championship
Coach Adamu Ejor’s men began their 2015 African Beach soccer championship campaign on a bright note as they caged the hosts in the opening game

Nigeria defeated Seychelles 10-1 in the opening game of the 2015 Caf Beach Soccer Championship played on Tuesday afternoon.

Brace from Emeka Ogbonna, Bartholomew Igbenegbu and Abu Azeez plus strikes from Victor Tale, Taiwo Adams and Emmanuel Ohwoferia were all the Super Sand Eagles needed to breeze aside the hosts in the 11-goal thriller played at the Roche Caiman Sports Complex, Roche Caiman.

The hosts played with high energy and did not play poorly, especially considering this was their debut African Beach Soccer Championship, but the Nigerian veterans helped carry them to the big win.

The win gives Nigeria three points and the top spot in Group A. Nigeria will next face Egypt on Thursday, hoping to secure another win and more points while Seychelles will face another tough opponent, Cote d’Ivoire.

Defeats To Atletico Won't Affect Madrid, Says Marcelo

Defeats to Atletico won't affect Madrid, says Marcelo
The Brazilian left-back says his side's four losses to Diego Simeone's men this season will have no bearing on the teams' Champions League quarter-final tie

Marcelo believes Real Madrid are in good shape ahead of their Champions League quarter-final against Atletico and says their four defeats to Diego Simeone's side this season will have no bearing on the rivals' European tie.

Madrid face Atletico at the Vicente Calderon on Tuesday after failing to win any of their previous six meetings with the Rojiblancos in 2014-15, losing four of those and drawing the other two.

Real's last win over their city rivals came in last season's Champions League final in Lisbon, when Sergio Ramos headed home a late leveller and Madrid won it 4-1 after extra-time.

“I don’t know how many times we have spoken about Ramos’ Decima goal this week,” Marcelo said in Monday's pre-match press conference.

“We have changed so much since Lisbon," he added. "We have played against Atletico a lot and something always changes. There are no favourites in a match like this. We will give everything on the pitch without thinking about previous games."

Marcelo, who scored in last season's showpiece in the Portuguese capital, says he was happy to help the side achieve their dream of a 10th European crown and now hopes Madrid can prove themselves against Atletico all over again.

"I was available for the final and I never lost faith in helping the team," he said. "That’s what happened and I was able to help the team win the Champions League. I consider myself very important in this team.

“We have to go out and give everything on the pitch this time. We will have to be very intense. We will have to fight. These derbies are very difficult.

"They are a great team. They never stop fighting and they are very intense. But we are not thinking about the last games against them. Now is completely different. We have two games to show that we can beat them.”

La Liga Team Of The Week: Neymar Barca's Best Until Surprise Substitution

La Liga Team of the Week: Neymar Barca's best until surprise substitution
The Brazilian scored a fantastic free-kick in the 2-2 draw at Sevilla and was the pick of his side's players before he was withdrawn in the second half by Luis Enrique

Real Madrid are now only two points behind Barcelona at the top of the table after the 31st round of La Liga.

Los Blancos beat Eibar 3-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday to close in on the Catalans, who were unable to hammer home a 2-0 lead at Sevilla and had to settle for a point at the Sanchez Pizjuan.

Elsewhere, there were wins for Almeria, Celta, Espanyol, Elche and Valencia. And here, Goal looks at the standout performers from the latest Liga action...

In goal, Carlos Kameni frustrated Atletico with several important saves for Malaga in the 2-2 draw at La Rosaleda.

At the back, Marcelo impressed for Real in the 3-0 win over Eibar, Shkodran Mustafi was solid for Valencia in their 3-0 derby success at home to Levante and Hector Moreno helped Espanyol to a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Athletic Club at Cornella.

In midfield, Ever Banega was in fine form for Sevilla and hit his side's first as they came from 2-0 down to snatch a point against Barca. Sofiane Feghouli impressed and scored for Valencia against Levante, Chory Castro netted a stunning strike reminiscent of the great Marco van Basten in the 2-2 draw against Deportivo La Coruna, and Javier Espinosa was excellent for Almeria in their 3-0 win over Granada.

In attack, Santi Mina scored four for Celta Vigo in their 6-1 success at home to Rayo Vallecano, which included another superb showing from Nolito. And for Barca, Neymar was a constant thorn in Sevilla's side, scoring a fantastic free-kick and impressing more than anyone until he was surprisingly substituted in the second half by Luis Enrique.

Forget Ronaldo And Bale, Modric Will Be Key - Raul

Forget Ronaldo and Bale, Modric will be key - Raul
The New York Cosmos striker believes the creativity of the Croatia international could prove decisive against Diego Simeone's men

Former Real Madrid captain Raul has earmarked Luka Modric as the man to unlock Atletico in Tuesday’s Champions League clash.

The teams meet at the Vicente Calderon in the first leg of their quarter-final tie with Atletico boasting a record of four wins and two draws from their six clashes with Madrid this season.

Raul is expecting a tight encounter and believes it will be Modric, rather than the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo or Gareth Bale, who could make the difference.

He told L’Equipe: “I think the superstars like Ronaldo, [Karim] Benzema, Bale, Arda Turan and Koke will be prominent but I think the key to Real Madrid’s success could be Luka Modric.

“We are well aware of the void created by his injury. He is the leader of the orchestra and if Atletico do not open the game up – which is likely – a player like Modric, with his qualities, will be very valuable. He sees spaces before everyone else and has an exceptional reading of the game.

“For Atletico, Antoine Griezmann should do well. He has performed well since the start of the year and the Madrid defence needs to be careful.”

Gnabry Nearing Arsenal Return

Image result for gnabry
Serge Gnabry says he is feeling "better and better" all the time as the Arsenal teenager prepares to return after more than a year out.

The 19-year-old midfielder impressed for the Gunners last season, but his progress has been stunted by a serious knee injury. Gnabry, as a result, has not featured since the Champions League last-16 second leg against Bayern Munich in March 2014, although he is at last closing in on a return.

The Germany Under-21 international played for Arsenal's development squad as they lost 1-0 to Reading on Monday and is now over his injury worries. "I am feeling good, I'm feeling better and better," Gnabry told Arsenal Media.

"It is my second 90 minutes [in the space of a week], I am playing and over my injury so it is all good and I am looking forward to the next game."

Suarez: My Job Is To Help Messi And Neymar

Suarez: My job is to help Messi & Neymar
Luis Suarez says it is a Barcelona player's duty to help Lionel Messi and Neymar perform to the best of their abilities.

Suarez signed for the Catalans last summer from Liverpool and, after a slow start, has now formed an enviable attacking trio alongside Messi and Neymar.

The 28-year-old is adamant, however, that his and everybody else's job at Camp Nou is to ensure the Argentine and Brazilian are afforded as much of an opportunity to damage the opposition as possible.

"Life at Barcelona is about adapting to the way Leo and Neymar play and the moves they make, and trying to make things easier for them," Suarez told Uefa.com.

"They are incredible players, but you work to support the team regardless of who is playing that day. Everybody feels comfortable in their role of helping Messi and Neymar play their best game.

"There are situations where we have maybe two or three players in attack to distract the defence."

Suarez also suggested part of the reason he chose to leave Liverpool for his “dream” club was that he could not imagine he'd ever win a continental trophy while an Anfield.

"I've always wanted to play at Barcelona," the Uruguayan continued. "It was a dream come true. Everything is fine here now.

"In the first few months you have to get to know your new team-mates, but I am very happy with everything here now.

"Of course the allure of winning the Champions League was part of the reason I joined Barca. They are always a candidate to win it.

"That's a plus here, as the clubs I've played for before didn't really have the chance to win big European trophies - maybe a domestic league or cup at best.

"Playing in a team like this, where all the players want to win every match and everything, that is a sign that it's all about silverware - whether it's the Champions League, La Liga or whichever trophy's available.

"We have a chance of making the Champions League final this season."

Barca will need to knock out Paris Saint-Germain - who eliminated Chelsea in the last 16 - in the quarter-finals if they hope to be featuring in the final in Berlin.

The first leg is on Wednesday at Parc des Princes before the return tie at Camp Nou six days later.

Paper Round: Man Utd To Steal Liverpool's Summer Signing

Burnley striker Danny Ings is poised to move to Old Trafford, plus the rest of the day's best stories.
Manchester United favourites for Ings: Danny Ings could be on his way to Old Trafford if Louis van Gaal has his way.

The Mail reports that Manchester United are readying a bid for the forward, with the goal of beating out Liverpool. Ings is a free agent this summer and Burnley would receive about £5 million if he left for another English club, but a loophole allows him to sign a pre-contract with another club if that club agree to a fee with Burnley.

That's what United are hoping to do. Paper Round's view: The Red Devils seem to be set on buying more experienced - and more expensive - players this summer, but if Ings could be had on the cheap, they would probably like to add a young Englishman to their ranks. Still, it would be surprising to see the deal done before the summer when Ings can wait until the summer and let Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham and the rest of the interested clubs join the fray to push his wages higher.

Osede Wants To Play For Nigeria

A new dispensation seems to be on the horizon for Nigerian football as more foreign-born players have pledged their international allegiance to the country.

Barely weeks after Kenneth Otigba of Hereenveen in Holland, who has a Nigerian father and a Hungarian mother, told supersport.com that his desire to wear the colours of Nigeria, another foreign-born player has also sent out a come and get me plea.

Real Madrid Castilla defender, Derik Osede Prieto, born to a Nigerian father and a Spanish mother in Madrid, has been quoted in the Spanish media to be willing to don Nigeria’s colours despite playing for Spain at youth level.

“Playing for Nigeria at senior level will be a great honour. That is my father’s country,” Osede was quoted by Spanish media in an interview recently.

The 22-year-old central defender has spent majority of his career in the Real Madrid youth set up and has come through the ranks to the team B.

He has also played for Spain from under-16 to under-21 levels appearing at the Uefa European Under-19 Championship held in Estonia in 2012 which Spain won.

That Spanish team beat Greece 1-0 in the final with Osede playing the game in a Spanish side that had the likes of Jese of Real Madrid, Paco Alcacer of Valencia and Gerard Deulofeu of Barcelona.

Foreign-born players like Leon Balogun and Steve Ukoh have been recently handed call ups to the Super Eagles.

Martinez Challenges Lennon To Earn Everton Place

Martinez challenges Lennon to earn Everton place
The winger has scored twice since joining from Tottenham on loan - the winner against QPR and the equaliser at Swansea - and his manager has urged him to keep improving

Roberto Martinez has urged Aaron Lennon to maintain his good form as the Everton loanee pushes for a permanent move from Tottenham.

The loanee has impressed since joining on in the last transfer window and made it consecutive goals in Premier League away games by scoring in the 1-1 draw at Swansea City on Saturday.

Martinez has been impressed by Lennon's contribution, but told the 21-time England international to keep up his high standards if he wants to extend his stay beyond the end of the season.

"The impressive thing about Aaron is he does not look like a loan player, he looks like he has been playing for Everton for many, many years and that is a very important sign," Martinez told reporters.

"What we now want is for Aaron to carry on pushing, carry on enjoying his football, carry on keeping his place in the side and making sure he enjoys his time with Everton."

Martinez was also boosted by the return of Steven Pienaar after the midfielder missed the past four months with a knee injury, and his manager has admitted the South African has ben a big miss.

"You see what we have been missing all season," he added. "Steven has been unavailable for 19 Premier League games and that is an astonishing amount of games to be without a key player."

Robben: I've Felt Physically Disabled

Robben: I've felt physically disabled
The Dutchman is frustrated with being out injured but thinks he is nearing a return for Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich forward Arjen Robben claims he's felt “physically disabled” during his current spell on the sidelines.

The Netherlands international tore an abdominal muscle in March and was ruled out for several weeks with the injury.

Although Robben believes he is nearing a return for Pep Guardiola's side, who look set to wrap up the Bundesliga title in the next month, he has vented his frustration at not being able to play a part in Bayern's end-of-season efforts.

"You always want to be on the pitch to help your team, but you can only watch them when you're injured," he told Bild. "That is the worst situation for a footballer.

"I've had a lot of injuries in my career, but this is something new - I've never had something like this before. With this kind of an injury, you're physically disabled.

"In everyday life, there's so much you do that requires a working abdominal muscle. You're not able to get up, sit down or go going to toilet - you're always in pain.

"But now, the pains are easing - today I can laugh again. The healing process is going as planned. I can ride a bicycle and, in a few days, I hope that I can go running a little bit.

"I'm working hard for my comeback, though nobody can say when that will be. Personally, I hope that my comeback will be in the DFB-Pokal semi-final against Borussia Dortmund on April 28."

Robben will be watching from the stands when Bayern travel to Porto for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday.

Ex-Madrid Man Reveals Ronaldo's Secret

Sarabia: Ronaldo's desire trumps Messi's talent
Getafe star Pablo Sarabia is qualified more than most when giving his thoughts on the debate as to whether Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in the world.

Having faced both men in La Liga on more than one occasion, he also played alongside the Portugal captain having been part of the Real Madrid set-up until 2011.

"For me, Ronaldo is the best player in the world," the attacking midfielder, who has played for all of Spain's underaged teams, told Goal. "Yes it is true that Leo is supernatural, because he has pure skill, from another planet.

"But Cristiano is an example of pure willpower. Physically he is incredible because it seems that every day he is striving to be the best. That is an incredible quality, one that has led him to where he is now. Without that characteristic he would not be there, for sure."

Ronaldo has a chance to right some wrongs on Tuesday, as Real Madrid visit city rivals Atletico Madrid for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash. The last Madrid derby saw the Rojiblancos claim a 4-0 thrashing but ex-Real trainee Sarabia feels his old club should stick to their guns.

"Both teams know each other very well. [Atletico boss] Diego Simeone has a great way of analysing matches, which he has shown several times. Real Madrid have to play their game and try to stop Atletico from blocking their style of play, which is what happened in other games.

"It is a difficult game for both sides. In recent years they have been fighting many battles because both teams are very good and compete for all competitions. I personally would have preferred that they weren't drawn against each other in the quarter-finals, to give a chance for more Spanish teams to be in the semis. It's always nice to play against teams from other countries because everyone bets on the Spanish team."

One of Atletico's main strengths in recent years has been their ability to cope with the pressure of the big matches. The Madrid derby now counts as one of Europe's most anticipated clashes, with last season's Champions League final victory for Real followed by a series of great results for Atletico, including two wins and two draws in La Liga and the Copa del Rey this term.

"There is always pressure and it's greater at Real Madrid," the 22-year-old continued. "They're the best club in the world and you have to notice that. Sometimes you follow a defeat with victory and go from being the worst to being the best.

"This is what happens when you are so big and there is so much demand. A match between Atletico and Real is always great and you have that extra motivation that makes you push yourself."

Zidane and Ancelotti

Real boss Carlo Ancelotti has come under pressure personally, with a poor run through March seeing the Blancos lose their Liga lead to Barcelona and almost go out of Europe after narrowly beating Schalke 5-4 in the previous round.

Goal understands that Ancelotti will lose his job if he fails to win the Champions League or La Liga this season. One problem with this strategy is that very few options currently exist to replace the Italian. One name which has been mentioned is legendary France midfielder Zinedine Zidane, who currently works as the club's Castilla coach.

When asked if Zidane was ready for the top job, Sarabia was definitive.

"Of course. He has no experience as a manager but has plenty of experience of organising a team and how to deal with the different people within it. He has all the grounding and knows everything about football. In the end that is what is important."

Sarabia also had positive words about Ancelotti's predecessor, controversial Portuguese Jose Mourinho, who had a difficult relationship with the club's hierarchy, the Spanish media and football federation. Despite all this conflict, the Chelsea boss never upset Sarabia.

"He always behaved very well with me. He is much closer [to players] than everyone thinks, than I thought. Maybe he doesn’t show this side of himself to the press, but face-to-face he is a good person.

"I am very grateful that he gave me my debut and I have only good words for him. He never once treated me badly."

Messi: Penalty Problems Frustrate Me

Messi: Penalty problems frustrate me
The Barcelona star believes goalkeepers are wising up to his tactics from the spot but concedes his record from 12 yards has not been good enough

Lionel Messi admits he is deeply frustrated with his success rate from penalties this season.

Barcelona and Argentina star Messi has missed four penalties for club and country this term, including against Manchester City in the Champions League, Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey and Brazil in an international friendly.

The 27-year-old says he is still the No.1 spot-kick taker for Barcelona but concedes he must improve his record, especially given that goalkeepers are beginning to do their homework on his tactics from 12 yards.

"Yes there is a lot of frustration that I have missed a lot of penalties, both for the club and for Argentina," Messi told Barca's official magazine.

"I am the designated penalty taker, but when the goalkeepers study you they know your ideas more. It is true to say that a well-taken penalty is very difficult to stop, but now it's more complicated when it comes to taking a penalty.

"These are things in football, but it is true that I have made poor decisions, such as against Manchester City, when the goal would have given us a very important advantage.

"But like everything in football, we are fortunate that every three days there is another game - you cannot keep regretting what happened."
