Paper Round: Man Utd To Steal Liverpool's Summer Signing

Burnley striker Danny Ings is poised to move to Old Trafford, plus the rest of the day's best stories.
Manchester United favourites for Ings: Danny Ings could be on his way to Old Trafford if Louis van Gaal has his way.

The Mail reports that Manchester United are readying a bid for the forward, with the goal of beating out Liverpool. Ings is a free agent this summer and Burnley would receive about £5 million if he left for another English club, but a loophole allows him to sign a pre-contract with another club if that club agree to a fee with Burnley.

That's what United are hoping to do. Paper Round's view: The Red Devils seem to be set on buying more experienced - and more expensive - players this summer, but if Ings could be had on the cheap, they would probably like to add a young Englishman to their ranks. Still, it would be surprising to see the deal done before the summer when Ings can wait until the summer and let Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham and the rest of the interested clubs join the fray to push his wages higher.
