Arsenal are just one of the clubs linked with the 27-year-old, but will they land him or will he end up elsewhere?
Highest paid player
The biggest development seems to be the problems that have arisen over Khedira’s current wages in Madrid. The Daily Mail report that Arsenal will need to make him their highest paid player – an idea they appear to be open to – but concede that the club could still look elsewhere in their quest to sign a new central midfielder, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender and Southampton star Morgan Schneiderlin still being considered.
€30m deal
Sport Bild seem to be keeping a keen eye on proceedings, reporting that Arsenal are preparing a €30m bid for Khedria. However, much like the British media, they also say that in order for the Gunners to secure his services, they will have to make him the club’s highest paid player. Mesut Ozil currently holds that title – earning an estimated €180,000-a-week.
Stalled negotiations
Spanish outlet Cadena Ser have shed more light on Khedira’s current situation, claiming that Arsenal representatives have spoken with his agent over a potential move, but talks have stalled over salary demands. They continue that Arsenal have a transfer budget of €100m for the summer, and with Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy set to arrive at the club in due course, there is plenty of money remaining to land Khedira.
Competition
Khedira’s performance against Brazil looks to have prompted Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho into action, according to the Independent. Seemingly not content on signing Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa, the Blues are considering a move for Khedira – who has worked with Mourinho during the latter’s time as Real Madrid manager. At the moment it looks to be just fleeting interest, but given Chelsea’s comparable wealth, Arsenal will be keen to get any deal over the line sooner rather than later.
