‘Balotelli Staying At Liverpool’

Misfiring Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli will remain at the club next season, his agent Mino Raiola claimed on Wednesday.

Balotelli, 24, struggled in his debut campaign at Anfield following his £16 million move from AC Milan last year, scoring just one league goal and four in all competitions.

It has prompted speculation that Liverpool, who did not qualify for the Champions League, will look to move the Italy international on in the close-season transfer window.

But Raiola told Sky Sports: "We have talks with Liverpool and he will stay. I spoke many times with the club and they were happy with his input as a professional."

Asked if Balotelli and Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers had successfully adapted to working with each other, Raiola replied: "I think Mario did. I cannot talk for Brendan Rodgers.

"Obviously we're pretty confident it'll happen next year."

Wenger: Benzema? Vidal? Arsenal Not Thinking About Transfers

Wenger: Benzema? Vidal? Arsenal not thinking about transfers
Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is a fan of Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal and has refused to rule out the possibility of signing the Chilean and Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema in the summer.

The north Londoners were considering an ambitious summer swoop for Benzema and are convinced that the former Lyon star would be keen on a switch.

When asked about Arsenal's interest in the France forward and Vidal, Wenger told reporters that his concentration remains solely on the upcoming FA Cup final, not on summer moves:

"I like Arturo Vidal. You can suspect that at the moment I'm not in a transfer mode.

"We'll deal with transfers after the FA Cup final. It's all suspicions, nobody knows if its true or not."

The Frenchman was similarly quiet when quizzed about Arsenal's interest in Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling on May 19, with the 20-year-old expected to tell Brendan Rodgers he wants to leave the club when the transfer window reopens.

Lerner To Stand Down As Villa Chairman

Aston Villa's American owner Randy Lerner will stand down as club chairman whether or not he manages to sell the club, he said on Wednesday.

In an interview with The Times newspaper, he said he should have moved aside some years ago and that he took responsibility for the team's poor performance over the last few seasons.

Lerner, 53, has been trying to sell the club he bought in 2006 for some time and is looking for between 150-200 million pounds ($231.21-308.28 million).

"Plan A remains to find a buyer or Plan B (is) find a new chairman," he said.

"The club's performance over the last five or so years has left quite a lot to be desired and that falls squarely on my shoulders.

"Happily, we've not been relegated but I haven't gotten it nearly right enough."

Villa finished one place off relegation from the Premier League, three points ahead of the bottom three teams, but Tim Sherwood's side could still make it a memorable season by beating favourites Arsenal in the FA Cup final on Saturday.

That would be their first major trophy success since 1996.

Under Martin O'Neill they finished sixth for three seasons running from 2008 but he walked out, claiming insufficient financial backing from Lerner, whose subsequent appointments were far less successful.

Casillas: Whistling Made Me Angry - But ICan't Imagine Leaving Madrid

Casillas: Whistling made me angry - but I can't imagine leaving Madrid
Iker Casillas says he has never been moved to tears by the whistles of Real Madrid fans but admits he has been angered by his treatment.

The goalkeeper's form has been under persistent scrutiny during the past 18 months following a handful of high-profile blunders and a dismal performance with Spain at the World Cup last summer.

However, Carlo Ancelotti reinstated him as undisputed No.1 across all competitions ahead of 2014-15, which drew ire from supporters who thought summer signing Keylor Navas deserved to start.

With Ancelotti having since been sacked this week and David de Gea linked with a big-money move this summer, speculation remains rife that Casillas will ultimately be forced to leave the club - but he admits he cannot envisage doing so.

"I want to face the season with the belief I have always had over the years, that's the passion for this position that I have,” he told Cadena SER.  "I'll be in this goal next season and I do not imagine leaving the Real Madrid.

"I would hold off another goalkeeper because I am competitive. But there will never be a problem between myself and Real Madrid.

"What I want and desire is for the good of those who come to the Santiago Bernabeu, the people who call this club their home. It's not the typical brown-nosing flattery, it is the truth.

"I'm a very emotional person and I let the whistling get to me too much, though I never went home crying. But yes, I was angry at the response."

When put on the spot about Manchester United No.1 and Spain international team-mate De Gea being brought in, he added: "De Gea is an awfully nice guy and I'm used to his presence."

Mourinho Pokes Fun At Rivals

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says his Premier League winning players have not been given the credit they deserve and took time to make fun of the teams that finished below them on Tuesday.

The 52-year-old Portuguese – whose side finished the season eight points clear of 2014 champions Manchester City – used the end of season Chelsea dinner to use a convoluted story to poke fun at City, Arsenal, who finished third, and fourth-placed Manchester United.

To a backdrop of a graphic showing a pitch with two goals he addressed first of all Louis van Gaal-managed United – the 'plain red shirted team' – saying they would have preferred to play without goals.

"That team plays really well and the ball goes and goes and goes and the quality of the ball possession is really beautiful, but no goals," said Mourinho.

"And they ask the international board of Fifa to play like this, but they were told that it was not possible, that the bigger percentage of ball possession doesn't win matches and they were not champions."

City, 'the sky blue shirted team', at least wanted to play with one goal.

"They were fantastic and they scored a lot of goals and the goals were coming from every position and they score and they score and they score, but they never conceded goals, because no goal.

"Again, the international board told them 'I'm sorry, you can't be champions because football is with two goals'."

Vis-a-vis Arsenal, 'the team with red shirts, white sleeves' did want to play with two goals.

"They were scoring some, they were also conceding some. They were fantastic. They scored really beautiful goals, they concede some goals too and they were almost there," said Mourinho, who also guided Chelsea to the League Cup trophy.

"But they asked the international board to play only between January and April. And they were told 'no chance, no chance'.

"You have to play between August and May, so they couldn't be champions."

Which brought him nicely to Chelsea – the team in blue shirts – and why they had won the title and not the other three, even harking back to his days in 2010 as Real coach when he defended his tactics against Barcelona and critics accused him of parking the bus in terms of how many men he put behind the ball.

"They (Chelsea) wanted to play with the normal rules and they know that to win matches they had to score one more goal than the opponent," said Mourinho.

"How can you do this? By scoring a lot of goals or not conceding and scoring one.

"And they did it both ways. Scoring a lot, conceding some. Scoring one goal and conceding no goals.

"That was the option and lots of goals were conceding, they played from August till May and sometimes they brought the bus."

Arrested Fifa Officials Face Extradition

Six high-ranking soccer officials, including two vice-presidents of world governing-body Fifa, were arrested by Swiss police on Wednesday and detained pending extradition to the United States.

The arrests were made by plain-clothed police shortly after dawn at a plush Zurich hotel where Fifa officials are staying ahead of this week's Fifa presidential election.

The Swiss Federal Office of Justice (FOJ) did not identify which officials were arrested but confirmed that Fifa president Sepp Blatter was not among them.

The New York Times and the BBC both reported that Jeffrey Webb and Eugenio Figueredo, both Fifa vice-presidents, were among the six detained.

The FOJ said in a statement that the officials were suspected by U.S. investigators of having received or paid bribes totaling millions of dollars.

"The US Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York is investigating these individuals on suspicion of the acceptance of bribes and kickbacks between the early 1990s and the present day," the statement said.

"The bribery suspects -- representatives of sports media and sports promotion firms -- are alleged to have been involved in schemes to make payments to the soccer functionaries -- delegates of Fifa and other functionaries of Fifa sub-organizations -- totaling more than US$100 million."

More than 10 officials were expected to be indicted but not all were in Zurich. The New York Times said Jack Warner, Eduardo Li, Julio Rocha, Costas Takkas, Rafael Esquivel, José Maria Marin and Nicolas Leoz were also indicted.

Fifa did not make any immediate comment following the arrests but are due to hold a news conference at 0900 GMT on Wednesday.

Most of the officials are in Switzerland for the Fifa Congress, where Blatter faces a challenge from Jordan's Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein in a presidential election on Friday when the Swiss administrator will attempt to secure a fifth term at the helm.

Prince Ali, who has promised to clean up Fifa if elected to the top job, released a brief statement.

"Today is a sad day for football," he said.

"Clearly this is a developing story, the details of which are still emerging. It would not be appropriate to comment further at this time."

The New York Times said more than a dozen Swiss law enforcement officials arrived at Zurich's Baur au Lac hotel early on Wednesday, took keys from the registration desk and headed up to the rooms.

CONCACAF FOCUS

One Fifa official was led by the authorities from his room to a side-door exit of the hotel, the Times said, adding that officials from the body's powerful executive committee were being targeted.

"We're struck by just how long this went on for and how it touched nearly every part of what Fifa did," the paper quoted an unnamed law enforcement official as saying.

"It just seemed to permeate every element of the federation and was just their way of doing business. It seems like this corruption was institutionalized."

The Times said much of the enquiry was focused on the Concacaf region, which governs soccer in the North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

The confederation's former boss Warner was regularly dogged by accusations of corruption before he resigned in 2011, putting an end to investigations of the Trinidadian.

Prosecutors expected to announce the case at a news conference at the Brooklyn U.S. attorney's office, which is leading the investigation on Wednesday, the Wall Street Journal said in a separate report.

U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey and Internal Revenue Service criminal chief Richard Weber were expected to appear in Brooklyn to announce the case, the WSJ said.

The reports offer a fresh blow to the credibility of Fifa, which has suffered repeated accusations of wrongdoing over the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, which were awarded to Qatar and Russia respectively.

Fifa appointed an independent investigator to look into the allegations and though a summary of his report found some wrongdoing on the part of the Qatari and Russian bid committees, Fifa's ethics judge concluded it was not enough to question the entire process.

The investigator, former attorney Michael Garcia, subsequently resigned from his role in December after criticising the handling of his report.

Damian Collins, the British MP who founded the reform group New Fifa Now, said the news was hugely significant for Fifa and could have a massive impact on the governing body.

"The chickens are finally coming home to roost and this sounds like a hugely significant development for Fifa," he told Reuters by telephone.

"It proves that Sepp Blatter's promises over the last few years to look into corruption at Fifa have not materialised and because he has totally failed to do this, it has been left to an outside law enforcement agency to do the job and take action."

Blow For Arsenal! Transfer Target 'Very Close' To Agreeing Juventus Move

Blow for Arsenal! Transfer target 'very close' to agreeing Juventus move
Arsenal target Sami Khedira is 'very close' to agreeing a summer move to Juventus, according to reports in Spain.

The Real Madrid midfielder is out of contract at the end of the current season and he has confirmed he will move on.

That has seen him linked with Arsenal, while Chelsea are another club said to be tracking the German international.

But Marca believe Champions League finalists Juventus have stolen a march on their rivals and are on the verge of announcing a deal that will see Khedira join them on a free transfer

That would mean Arsene Wenger has to act fast if he is to have any chance of luring Khedira to the Emirates.

Man United Flop Falcao Could Remain In The Premier League Next Season

Man United flop Falcao could remain in the Premier League next season
Manchester United misfit Radamel Falcao could yet still end up playing in the Premier League next season, according to reports in France.

The Red Devils have sent the Colombian striker back to parent club Monaco after a miserable season at Old Trafford, which yielded just four goals in 26 Premier League appearances.

But Ligue 1 giants Monaco want to sell the 29-year-old, and according to French newspaper L'Equipe, several teams from England's top flight are chasing the former Atletico Madrid man - despite having seen United ship the striker out at the first opportunity.

Falcao earns around £10m-a-year at the Stade Louis II and the club's hierarchy believe there are younger and less expensive options which could fit the bill and satisfy the requirements of UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations.

Italian duo AC Milan and Juventus are both also interested in his signature.

Chelsea's Moses Could Return To Stoke City, Admits Hughes

Chelsea's Moses could return to Stoke City, admits Hughes
Stoke City boss Mark Hughes has not ruled out a close-season swoop for Chelsea loanee Victor Moses after being impressed by the winger this season.

Moses played 19 games in the Premier League before a hamstring injury in April ended his campaign and saw him return to the Blues to recover.

However, such was the 24-year-old's impact at the Britannia Stadium, Hughes would be keen to see him back next season.

"Those are options you can pursue, because you can get good players in and not commit huge chunks of money," Hughes told the Stoke Sentinel .

"We've done okay ourselves with loans over the last couple of years.

"It was good to see Victor back at the ground for the final game of the season. I thought it was important he came, along with Bojan, because they have obviously played their part in our season as well as those on show for the last game.

"He's back at Chelsea now, but hopefully we can still do something. We'll have to see."

Stoke finished the campaign with a 6-1 demolition of Liverpool on Sunday, securing ninth place and a record haul of 54 points.

I Was Angry With Ancelotti - Casillas

I was angry with Ancelotti - Casillas
Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has admitted he didn't always see eye to eye with Carlo Ancelotti following the coach's sacking on Monday.

The club captain lost his place to Diego Lopez after an injury during Jose Mourinho's final season at the Santiago Bernabeu and failed to win it back under the Italian the following term, though he has been No.1 this campaign.

And he has now revealed that he was angered by the original snub but wished Ancelotti well for the future after reflecting on the coach's departure.

He told Cadena SER: "It is a demanding club and the president and the board have made the best decision.

"But I thank Carlo for what he has done for me, even though last year I was angry because he did not play me much.

"He is a noble person and I wish him well. Madrid will always be his home."

Casillas's own future has been the subject of great speculation following reports Madrid will move for Manchester United keeper David de Gea this summer.

However, the 34-year-old is convinced he will still be at the club next season and has no intention of giving up his shirt without a fight.

"I am sure that I will continue here next season. Sure. I can't imagine I will not be at the club next season. I want to finish my career here.

"If things were not working I would have to leave, but now I feel good and I am strong. I will face the coming season as if it were my first here, that's my challenge."

Casillas was booed by his own supporters in several games towards the end of the season following a number of high-profile mistakes.

Bale Pledges To Come Back Stronger

Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale has promised to "come back stronger" next season and quashed media speculation he might leave the club he joined in 2013 for a world record fee.

The Welsh international had a disappointing second year in Spain as his team failed to win a major trophy, prompting the sacking of coach Carlo Ancelotti on Monday.

Whistled by some fans at Real's Bernabeu stadium, Bale's agent raised eyebrows this month when he complained the 25-year-old's teammates were not passing the ball to him enough and he has also been criticised for what some perceive as selfishness in front of goal.

Reports in England have suggested he might leave, with Manchester United apparently interested in signing the former Tottenham Hotspur man.

However, Bale took to Twitter on Tuesday to say he would be vying for titles again with the world's richest club by income in 2014-15.

"Not the end of the season we had hoped for, we always want to win trophies," Bale wrote.

"Will be working hard in the off season and looking forward to coming back next season stronger with @realmadrid."

Bale's woes have marked a startling turnaround for a player who scored in the finals of the Champions League and the King's Cup last term.

He has scored 17 goals in 48 outings in all competitions this season, compared with 22 in 44 appearances in 2013-14.

Bale has also produced slightly fewer assists, setting up 11 goals for teammates after 12 the previous year.

The statistics are similar but according to a survey of 725 Real members conducted by market research firm SigmaDos for Marca sports daily, Bale rated five out of 10 for the season.

That compared unfavourably with Portuguese teammate Cristiano Ronaldo who scored 7.8 after netting a La Liga-best 48 goals and 61 in all competitions.

Arsenal's Sanchez Wins Fan Award

Arsenal dynamo Alexis Sanchez was on Tuesday announced as the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) Fans' Player of the Year after an excellent first season in English football.

Sanchez, 26, joined Arsenal from Barcelona last year in a reported £35 million ($53.9 million, 49.5 million euros) deal and has been an instant hit, scoring 16 Premier League goals and supplying eight assists.

His performances saw him named on the six-man shortlist for the PFA's Player of the Year award, which went to Chelsea's Eden Hazard.

But the Chile international beat Hazard and Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero to the fans' award in a public poll that received over 200 000 votes.

Later on Tuesday he was also named Facebook's inaugural Player of the Year winner in which over a million votes were cast globally.

Sanchez beat off Hazard, again, and Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.

In a poll monopolised by the two north London clubs in the Premier League, Spurs' Harry Kane won Young Player of the Year while Arsenal's Arsene Wenger won the manager award and Arsenal, who defend their FA Cup trophy in this weekend's final against Aston Villa, the team of the year despite finishing third in the league table 12 points adrift of champions Chelsea.
